Re: 1991 DODGE CARAVAN SE NO HEAT Sign In

I would try flushing out the heater core; the core on these vans is situated at one of the highest points in the engines cooling system. The engine’s cooling system is where the heated liquid comes from to supply heat for inside the vehicle via the heated core. The heater core is a small radiator inside the passenger’s compartment.
Over the years sediment, calcium will build up inside the core and restrict coolant flow; less coolant flow less heat.
You could try disconnecting the engine’s hoses to the core and connect a garden hose to one of the core’s spigots. Turn the hose on until the water flows clean; then switch the hose to the other spigot of the core and again run the water until it runs clear. Keep doing this back and forth between the two spigots until there’s nothing but clear water exiting the core.
By doing this you’ll likely increase the amount of heat that you’ll get from the vents; whether it’s enough will depend on how bad the core is plugged and what’s clogging it.
This is not a guaranty that it will increase the heat but it will likely help; if it does but still seems to be weak you may have to change the heater core and that’s not a place you want to go too if you can help it. The whole dash and air conditioning has to be removed to get to the core.
Dan.
