HELP!

2003 Chevy Suburban 1500 2wd, I can't get my ac blower to shut off even with the key out and it drains the battery. I recharged the battery and now the car won't start at all, but the lights and components come on after charging it...so does the evil blower as well...

Can you help me???Frown

Help guys - there's an answer for this that escapes me right now.

stephfauxco: Pull the fuse or relay each time you shut down this vehicle to avoid draining the battery till this is found. I could get a location of the relay with a quick search - owner's manual may help. There's a blower resistor (allows for lower that highest speed) that I think can somehow fail in this way.

Note: Draining battery to zero can and will kill a good one so try hard to avoid that,

T

Thank you so much...we have been disconnecting the battery completely. I have gone through one already!!

I'm hoping I can get it to a computer for a diagnostic, unless you don't think that will help.

I appreciate any and all advice you guys can give me. School is starting in a couple of weeks, and this soccer mom misses her big bad Burb!

Re: 2003 Suburban blower stays on - even when key out!
by Nacho on Wed Aug 13, 2008 11:23 am Tom:

The problem is due to a faulty blower resistor. It has to be replaced for the problem to go away. There are two types: manual HVAC or auto HVAC. You must specify.

Nacho ******************** Hey - Answer comes from the "Godfather of A/C" - his majesty NACHO !! Just got to know whether it's manual or auto air and replace that resistor - usually on top by blower buy I'm not certain on location, T

If it has automatic temperature control HVAC system, the blower motor control module is faulty and needs to be replaced.
This is common on GM's

Thank YOU Jim! I don't know how many 'burps come with auto air?? Only saw one 2008 for a nano second so far with auto a/c.

I've been PMing all around to get to this one.

Thanks,

Tom

You guys are awesome...I love this site and am soooo glad I found you Tom!!

I guess I should take it into an AC place to get it fixed, because it sounds like a difficult one for my husband to figure out, and he's pretty handy.

Am I wrong? If it's an easy fix, we'll give it a try. I just don't get why all of a sudden it's messed up now, oh well.

God bless you guys!

That looks like a resistor to me. Jim mentioned a common problem not known to me so make sure this includes that. Some of these are easy and some are well hidden. Simply don't know in this case. Sure looks like just two bolts and one wiring connection but getting there is another story.

As said earlier - should be (huh - famous last words) near the blower motor and up high or top of the casing. If you find blower motor - follow wires back to this,

T

Ps: I'd wait for Jim to concur that this is the likely whole item needed. If in doubt about the part have VIN# at the ready when ordering....

Ps: ?Why now?? Things like this can go like a light bulb without provocation....

I guess what I should have mentioned that when I entered my auto info into the Autozone parts site, it didn't give me a auto or manual prompt or choice with regard to my vehicle. So I am assuming there is only one choice for my make and model.

Bad for me to assume anything though! AND I didn't put in my vin!! (not sure that I can on Autozone anyway)!!

Thanks again for all the time you are spending on this. I will definitely keep you posted.
