tailights melting Sign In

I HAVE A 2004 GMC SIERRA.. MY TAILIGHTS BULBS ARE GETTING SO HOT THEY R MELTING THE SOCKETS AND THE TAILIGHTS.. I PUT A VOLT METER ON THEM AND THEY WERE READING 14V WITH THE TRUCK RUNNING AND LIGHTS ON... WITH THE TRUCK SHUT OFF AND THE LIGHTS STILL ON THEY READ 11.80V.. WHY R THEY GETTING SO HOT AND MELTING EVERYTHING..

Which bulb you got back there? Should be a 3157.

Which socket is melted? Is this actually getting hot enough to melt the tail lamp lens?

its the drivers and passenge side tailights.. the brake and reverse lights and sockets r fine.. just the tailights r getting so hot its melting the sockets.. i had a aftermarket tailights on and the bulb was melting the lens on those but they sat kinda close to lens oppose to the stock ones

So the stock lens is fine? Just the aftermarket ones are cooking?

Please only post your problem in one category. I deleted the other one. It confuses people and gives advice in two different areas of the site.

yeah so far.. i just put the stock back in till i figured out what was going on cause ive had the aftermarket on for awhile now and this just all started happening

Probably wouldn't hurt to contact the tech support of the company that made those lens. Maybe there is some sort of procedure or modification that has to be done, so the lens don't get damaged.
