hi i have a 2006 Ford Taurus and it makes funny noises from the engine sounds like popcorn popping.
It sounds like it is from the air filter it does it when the car is ideal i can not hear it when i am driving but it might be there just muffled by the other sounds
what do you think it is?

Have you taken the air cleaner housing apart and looked in it? Bring salt and butter.

I'll have to admitt your post has got me curious....Personally I'm drawing a blank on this one......Is there any way you could record the noise & post it here????

I put it up today but can't see it. A red X wouldn't be it. See everyone else's just fine. Still a lot of other stuff on the site that isn't coming up on my screen the last few days. Not sure what's going on there.

Everyone's avatar is missing for me along with most of the other icons on the page. It's the site that is having a problem on certain servers.

If you're referring to that chirping noise, it could be the belt, one of the belt pulleys or on that car it could be the cam sensor synchronizer. You'll need a tech with a stethoscope to narrow it down. You could remove the belt and see if the noise is still there. That would eliminate all the pulleys and the belt if the noise is this there.

If the noise sounds like it is coming from the air filter i would recommend cleaning the throttle body with some carb cleaner.
If the flap doesn't close properly due to carbon build up it could burp.

Apparently you believe everything can be fixed with a throttle cleaning and an IAC.
