1997 buick lesabre custom. 3800 v6. 155,000 miles. i have speedometer problems and need to get it fixed. tired of tickets. the speedometer works but you can say be running 50mph and it will say your running 20mph. at other times you can be running 30 mph and it will say your running 80-100 mph. i have put new speed sencor on it. it appears to be getting current to the speed sencor. any other ideals it could be.

Some of the Lesabre had the heads up display that showed vehicle speed on the windshield.

If you don't have this, your going to get hold of an enhanced scan tool and watch the computer data stream information to see what the vehicle speed is when the gauge is acting up. The engine computer uses the vehicle speed sensor input to tell the instrument cluster speedometer actuator, the HUD (if equipped), cruise control module, and body control module the speed of the vehicle.

If you watch the vehicle speed on the scan tool and then activate the cruise control and it holds while the gauge is acting funny, the problem is probably in the gauge itself.

ok well the cruise does work fine this i can tell you there has been times when the gauge was working right i would set the cruise before it started messing up again. so the cruise is working it kicks in as it needs to accelerate so ill just go with its must be the gauge it self. i called about one at a parts house used from a salvage yard and its going to be a whole lot of crap to go through they tell me im going to have to take that instrament pannel out cause they need the identification number off it to tell me if they even have one.

You might want to also look into having a speedometer shop repair the one you have. You'll find lots of them on the internet. You just ship your cluster off to them and they repair what is broken and send it back to you. You might get lucky and have a speedoshop local. Our shop has had good luck with Nationwide.
