Re: roaring sound coming from rear end Sign In

if you were down 1L I would be wondering where it went. Check your axle seals rear pinion seal for leaks. If there are leaks check your vent tube make sure it's not blocked causing excess pressure in the rear end. If you where low on fluid it's possible you could have starved a bearing of oil causing it to overhead and fail.

best thing to do is bring it to a garage and get it on a hoist so they can run it up in the air to pin-point the noise.

Also the oil in the rear end is what lubricates the bearings. There is no external way to lube them.

Usally you remove the tube and blow through it if its blocked use air gun to blow it out. I'm not sure on GM if the nipple threads out or not it should. if not take fill plug out blow though with the one end of the hose to see if it's free.
