removing fuel pump lock ring 2000 Chevy Astro Sign In

Greetings, I have removed the fuel tank, 2000 Chevy Astor.

I have removed retaining ring on metal tanks using a punch, tapping it with a hammer. This tank is plastic and the ring does not move easly. The OEM manual calls for tool # J39765. I can make a tool, would rather not, they don't have this tool at NAPA.

Question: How have you removed these rings?

Thanks Richard

I have always been able to turn them off with a large "dull" chisel or screwdriver and a hammer.

Ditto - just try to keep constant contact (no sparks) and tap opposite side alternately should help. I don't know what the special tool looks like but bet you don't really need it however if it's enough trouble at least go see one vs wrecking the tank or something,

(edit) Found a pic and if it shows would be pushing on all nubs or a few opposite at once - that's all I can see?? Didn't show for me but Google images will show you if you put in that part #.........

OK! That gives me what I need! I was concerned about the tank being plastic. The 94 I replaced the pump on had a metal tank and came off fairly easy. The seal ring must be stuck. Thanks for the quick response.

Hey - What can I tell you? I tried three times and sucker shows while you paste it then go goo-goo when posted. Heck - I could find a pic of a kitty holding the tool but not for this one for some reason.

Good Kitty........Man is she strong!

Just copy & paste the picture into the text box. It has to be off the web, so if it's something you have at home, just upload it to photobucket, snapfish or whatever you use to post pictures.........

There are ways and all my own pics won't post to this website. You can try posting your picture on a site for pictures that's public, then copy and paste it or as an attachment and I can pull it out and post it instantly. Some of the junk I find out there is copyrighted and won't transfer. Those you just get the ever so wonderful red X or other symbol meaning "you can't have me."

Google Images is pretty good for about anything you can think of. Bandwidth of this site can handle quite a bit.

You can try downloading in your profile if not too large they'll post directly. I have some block that was in my initial set up that I don't know how to undo for that here.

Kitty has been my avatar from the get go here. I have almost every "Kitty" pic that exists on file that do transfer.

Here's Kitty after smelling too much gasoline vapors........

I'm working on an old puter so that may not show either. It's Win 1898 or something!
