How long or how long should it take for the presure in the radiator/overflow jug to be normal? After my call sat for about 8 hours at work i went to remove the cap from my overflow jug to add more fluid and there was still considerable pressure and the cap kinda popped off as i was unscrewing it. After 8 hours should the pressuer be pretty low to nothing?

CAR: 98 Ford Taurus/3.0/6 cylinder 137000 miles

Before I retired I saw this frequently on the Taurus. Through trial and error I came up with this repair. Install a “Prestone Flush and Fill Kit”. Be sure to follow the enclosed instructions for installing the kit and flushing the engine. You’ll also have to change the radiator cap and thermostat, but don’t do that till you tell us if this is a:

Flex Fuel Vehicle
DOHV
OHV

Once you post that information I’ll post the part numbers for the radiator cap and thermostat you should buy.

Flushing is ok . .Main problem is likely the cap not releasing pressure . Any parts house should be able to assit him in choosing right part.

On a cool day that would be true but in this heat it may take that long for the coolant to cool off and the pressure to drop. I certainly wouldn't be concerned about it. It's not indicative of any problem.
