I have a 305 5L in my 1980 cutlass, located on top on the front side of the motor is a pipe that carries coolant into the engine. Immediately before it reaches the engine block it passes through a coil that I believe helps with emission but people don't seem to know. It is currently.leaking water. Is it necessary. Both called 5.0 but Olds engine at a glance has a thermostat with by-pass hose on it for quick ID of which. Common problem when they weren't so old so would expect that part as shown to be the issue.
