i have a ford fiesta zetec 1.4 03 plate recently driving the temperature gauge went to red, i stopped and saw steam come from the water, i allowed it to cool and took to garage. they replaced thermostat housing. next day temp gauge still went to red took to another garage who said likely to be an airlock, toppedit upwith antifreeze, next day still the same took back to garage who said maybe head gasket and put k-seal in, again this has still not resolved??? help!!!!! i'm sure the garages just see me coming with being female. no water is leaking but when temp gauge at hot the water is bubbling.

don't think thermostat was replaced, i will try get that test kit. would it be best replacing the thermostat before the head gasket(skimming)?

When I read the first post of the shop putting stop seal in the radiator, I cringed. The use of any kind of stop leak products usually results in irreversible problems down the road. All these products do is clog coolant passages in the block and heads. They also restrict radiators and heater cores. NEVER use this kind of product, fix it right is the rule of thumb. Shame on the shop that did that.

is the problem likely to be the head gasket? people are telling me different things...not sure what to believe now?

The best advice is to follow Dan's. You may want to start with getting the head and gasket checked first off. Then, if it's OK, you can check the thermostat out.

In addition to the other advise, make sure the fans are coming on....
When is it over heating? Right away, with in 5 to 10 minutes of start up or is it at high speeds only? The more info you can give about when & how helps narrow it down to the possible cause............

it only seems to be overheating when driving for longer periods at higher speeds, i started car up yesterday and left running for about 30 mins and car did not overheat. i have it booked in to garage tommorow would just like some idea of what could be wrong
