no oil pressure Sign In

1993 gmc jimmy
130,000 miles
4wd

this has happened only 2 times to date:

I start my Jimmy and my "check gauge" light comes on and I see that I have no oil pressure. I try to rev it up to get oil pressure but nothing.
I turn it off for 20 minutes or so and try again and I have good oil pressure.

The first time it happened it scared me so I had it towed. The mechanic installed a new sender (sensor) cost me $265.00 including tow fee.

The second time it happened was about a month later. I stopped to a store and when leaving I had no oil pressure. I waited for a little while (pissed off of course- since I just paid to have this fixed), then started up again and now I had oil pressure and have been driving without any problems.

I took it back to the mechanic and he spent an hour re-checking and said he couldn't find anything wrong . He said my next step was to get a new oil pump at the tune of $650.00?????

The Jimmy runs very good and there is no ticking or knocking sounds. The engine sounds good! What would cause the oil pressure to be zero temporarily?

Re: no oil pressure Sign In

You're really going to have to manually verify the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge when this is happening.

if I manually test it, what could it be if I do have it, or if I don't have it

We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
