neglected transmission Sign In

Need some advice. 2007 toyota camry 2.4 automatic 170k miles. Transmission has given zero problems but has never been serviced. Fluid has a color more brown than the purple/red of new fluid. Advice from trusted friend was to let it ride because new fluid may do more harm than good at this point. Something about cutting varnish from clutches and leading to "slipping". I have heard this from trans that have begun to slip, then new fluid seemed to speed up the failure. What is fact or fiction? Some advice pls.

I'm afraid that is fact. I have seen many drive into the shop and not back out after a trans flush.

I guess I chose a good username then. Uhohh. I guess praying for many more miles would be appropriate now.

Yep, you have to start your maintenance much sooner.
