"The sepentine belt broke"

With that info and a battery light what is needed is perhaps a new alternator, battery (especially if over a few years old) and some voltage readings.

What equipment/tools do you have available to you? T

yes it broke driving down the freeway!!!!
my car is a 1992 Chevy Lumina Z34,
i took it to a shop to have them diagnose it, and they said that in 1992 GM decided to experiment with the palarity and reverse it but only on that particular model?????????? what ever that really means, so i have to take it to another shop. I think it is overcharging. is this a possibility, in any case im sure i have to replace my altanator

You can get a wiked cheap multimeter for under $10. Your voltage while running should not get over about 14.5V but could get way up to blow light bulbs and the whole car's system won't like it if it skyrockets.

If you have the patience you can replace just the voltage regulator in the alternator or have a local shop do that if that one is big bucks. It's a little fussy to take apart but if you email me I try to tell you how, T

Either click on my name or hit me at TEFeuilleVerte@Comcast.net -- either should get you the same -- I have NOT remained private at this site. I do screen mail so just say what you are up to doing and I'll know it's you, T
