leaking oil and coolant Sign In

PirateI JUST GOT MY 92 LUMINA Z34 BACK FROM THE SHOP AND NOW IT IS LEAKING OIL AND COOLANT.
I TOOK IT TO ONE SHOP AND THEY CHANGED THE ALTINATOR, I TOOK IT TO A TRANNY SHOP AND THEY FIXED 2 LEAKING SEALS AND SERVICED THE TRANNY, AND THEN I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER SHOP WHERE THE CHANGED THE INNER TIE RODS AND BACK SWAY BAR, ALIGNED IT AND CHANGED THE REAR BRAKES, ALL IN ONE WEEK, MY QUESTION IS WHICH ONE COULD HAVE CAUSED THIS PROBLEM AND WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW, I JUST SPENT $1500.00 ON REPAIRS, AND I DID NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM BEFORE.

HHHHEEELLLLP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!UnsureMadShockedFrownBlushShocked

Even though you've just been thru a lot all at once I don't think a coolant leak could be caused by the work you had done. The oil leak could be a problem with the tranny service that could leak tranny fluid and a real out there chance that replacing the tie rod bothered a seal in the rack and pinion but doubtful. It may just be your turn to support the auto repair industry Smile T

Maybe it would be a good idea to find out what’s causing the leak before you to start thinking of whom to blame? You’ve been to so many different shops now what’s one more to have the leak checked.Wink
There’s nothing wrong with older vehicles but you have to be ready for a few unexpected/unrelated things to happen when working on/with a 15-year-old car.Unsure

You’ll only know that after you find out where the leaks are originating from?

Re: leaking oil and coolant Sign In

Dan mentioned how many shops you've been to and that begs the question as to why?

I've been in some remote places where you couldn't get everything done at one place but I think most folks will be better off to pick one shop and if they don't do certain work ask THEM who to go to or some just handle it for you.

I need help with lots of car problems of my own and know the shops that do what and they start with trying to make an estimate and I always STOP them -- and say do what you would do if it were your car and they have been so good to me and more stuff got done sometimes and I gladly paid for their skills and judgement.

If you just seek out the best price I think most folks will end up dissapointed.

Case Example: My own mother had a terrible car accident in a perfect 96 Suburban and I talked to the body shop owner and said "all new GM parts" and it cost us more that insurance would pay but you can't tell that car ever had that accident and the owner of the shop was delighted to have a free hand to do their best and did. Just some proof in the pudding, T
