hello all, need a little help with my 03 impaula. i am not sure where to start, but here is the issue. sputters when i give it gas, the rpm jump up and down slightly. idles fine. some times when i give it gas it goes to 4000+ rpm and does nothing, some times it sounds like it spins out. will not accelerate properly. when in park and rev engine will go to about 4000 rpm and then start to sputter. any ideas thank you

There are so many could be’s that without actually testing things, first hand it’s hard to say what’s happening. Anything from a plugged converter, ignition system break down, fuel delivery/control, too a sensor beginning to fail? Go and have the car diagnosed and let us know the findings; if you’re not confident on the diagnosis.
The one thing I will say and that is to stop reving the thing to 4 grand plus; you’re going to grenade that motor.
