intermittent white/blue smoke Mazda 5 Sign In

2006 Mazda 5 sport, 2 litre diesel. 62k

Am having problems with intermittent billowing smoke - after driving a short distance (sometimes 500 yards, sometimes a couple of miles) the car suddenly billows smoke out the back for about 30 seconds or so and then stops. It happens both whilst moving and sitting in traffic. Happens so far approximately 1 in 8 journeys. No warning lights showing, just had full service, oil change etc, and DPF reset. Garage can find no fault as wont smoke for them!

ANy ideas would be really appreciated.

Hate to say it but it sure sounds like a headgasket seaping coolant into the combustion chamber someplace..are you adding coolant ?

Hi - thanks for the reply, I have only just bought the car so havent added coolant, cant even say I know where that is! The Mazda garage I took it to could find no reason for the smoke as of course it wouldnt do it for them.

Do I need more coolant do you think?
