The check engine light has been on in my 2000 Chevy Prism for a while now. I took it in about a month ago and they said that it was just a faulty sensor. They cleaned it and said if it came back on to just come in some time and they would replace it. It did come back on but I haven't had time to bring it in yet. Today when I was driving it started making a loud noise and when I got out of the car there was a definite unpleasant smell. Should I be concerned?

I don't think some sensor could cause the noise?? YES you should be concerned and the exhaust should be checked out. Heat it the wrong place could cause both the noise and the burning smell and an exhaust leak should be investigated, T
