I have a 1986 cutless supreme V6 and there is a hissing noise when idle and driving what could be the problem?

Probably a vacuum leak or perhaps an exhaust leak, T

Re: hissing noise Sign In

If the hissing noise gets louder as you accelerate, have a backpressure test performed to see if you have a restricted exhaust / clogged converter. As for the white smoke coming from the oil filler and dipstick tube you mentioned in a previous thread, it may be related or you can be looking at excessive engine wear resulting in blow-by, or a possible head problem. Start with the backpressure test and go from there. Seeing that you also have an acceleration problem, my guess is you have a clogged converter.

Note: If you would have made 1 post with all of the symptoms instead of 3 individual posts, the diagnosis would have been easier.

Steve
