Did you see anything laying on the floor that was plastic? There is a little rivet looking plastic button that snaps on the bracket. The switch plunger contacts the button when you release the brake pedal. If the button fell off or broke the switch doesn't get depressed and the brake lights stay on. I believe the dealer has them.
