fuel pump wrong for caraven 2005 Sign In

Hi, I need a new fuel pump for 2005 caravan - been to 3 different sites and used VIN and the part that has been sent was the same type from each company, BUT is does not match the one taken out by Breakmasters. the one taken out is much thicker and shorter and looks nothing like all the ones that are supposed to fit my car. I can only assume that the fuel tank is not the original so although websites are matching the part to the car, it is not matching my tank. The broken one that was taken out has a number: 771aj16751163 - any way I can figure out what pump I need? thanks

Then why don't you go to the local auto parts store like everybody else does?

I did not know that that is what people do. I have not tried to find part before - so just using web. Will go to local O'Reillys, I guess.
Also, I recently moved to USA from UK - so very new to USA cars (this is wife's car). I have only owned BMW 5 series for last 10 years in UK, so this is all pretty new to me.

thanks for the advice.

The local parts stores have up to date cataloging and the ability to quickly exchange an incorrect part plus the know how to research a problem. Airtex would be the preferred brand to look for.

aA quick look did show some different pumps - one fit 95% so that must be the problem. Flex fuel will matter if equipped.

As Hammer said just go to a real parts store. Stinks but it's frequently best to bring the old part when at all possible and match it up at the counter especally when there are different ones possible and avoid the mistakes right then and there,

thanks,

Went to O'Reilly's and thye did a search and originally pulled off the shelf the sort that is wrong. They then looked further and found the one I took along with me.

250 in total - worth it thought.

cheers.

Glad you found it finally. The web to me isn't very useful for most parts vs in person at a counter. Just beware that if you have the oddball this could happpen again. Good luck,

Ordering online is fine if you know exactly what you are buying and who you are buying it from. It's not usually a good idea on car parts. Returning is too much hassle.

Make sure you keep your receipt. There should be some sort of warranty on that part. If it fails early and you have the receipt you can just exchange it and same $250. Make sure you replace the fuel filter when you put the new pump in. Its had 8 years to get junk in it that will fail your new pump. Make sure you know which wheelbase you have as the filters are different.

Welcome to the US. That Caravan is a lot easier to fix than a BMW.

I buy a lot of parts from OReillys and NAPA. Those two carry pretty good quality usually. Beware the cheap ones like Autozone or Advance Auto Parts. Unless you get a premium brand name the parts you get are lower quality. I've had a lot of duds from them. NAPA is usually the more expensive of all of them but tends to be the best grade of parts.

We get some of our stuff through Advance and Autozone, but it is usually for things other than their house brand junk. Napa has gone China big time.
