I have a 1984 Ford mustang v6 35000 miles. For some reason oth fuel pumps wont get any power to them. First i took the one under the frame off and tested it by hooking it up to the battary with and it worked. then i droped the gas tank and eptied it and tested the one in the tank and it worked. So then i thought that it might be the relay. I put a new relay in it and still no power. i dont know why theres no power going to them. all the lights, windshild wipers and evrry thing else on the car works but not the fuel pumps. I also tried pushing the reset button in the trunk and still nothing!!!!!

I'm not sure when or how your testing these but the only time they are supposed to have power is for the first 2 seconds after the key is turned on and then again when the computer receives a cranking signal.
Also, there is an Inertia switch in the trunk that shuts down the fuel if the car is bumped. Find it and make sure the red button on top is pushed in.

I recently had what I thought were fuel pump troubles in my 1997 BMW. Not knowing how your Mustang is wired, I suggest you try to isolate where the problem is in your circuit. Find the fuel pump relay and see if you are getting power to the relay terminal that goes straight to the battery. You'll have to do some research to find out which relay terminal is permananelty powered, I can't remember offhand. I just used a cheap lighted probe for this. Like Hammer said, the fuel pump is only turned for a couple seconds after you turn the key...that threw me off very badly until someone else told me the same exact thing.
On my BMW, I had a corroded (and eventually a broken) wire that ran from the fuel level sending unit to the fuel pump so that was were the break in my circuit was. I am assuming you have some kind of electrical connector that connects to the top of your fuel tank, on the underside of which there would be your wires running to the pump.
Disconnect that connector and while someone turns the key, check to see if you are getting power at the positive terminal of that connector. THe light on the probe should come on and go off very shortly thereafter. If that works, then there is a problem in your circuitry between the cover on the gas tank and the pump itself. If it doesn't come on, you need to trace the problem back toward the battery...wiring, relay, fuses. If there is a similar relay in the fuse box, swap out the fuel pump relay with another one and see if it works. I'd suggest you swap out all the fuel pump fuses too...that is if you don't get power at the connector that goes into the tank.

Here's a reference with some pics for the BMW fuel pump replacement. I would suspect that the general concept woudl be similar.

You can see the connector that I was talking about in these pictures. Bear in mind that these pictures are showing the top of the fuel tank, which is accessible via a hatch under the back seat. Much more convenient than having to drop the tank! Just trying to give you an idea on where to troubleshoot your circuit. Wouldn't be surprised if you have a similar problem with a corroded wire in the tank.
