is it at all possible for a poor electrical connection at the fuel pump (in-tank) to cause an explosion or other hazard

Disclaimer here: Not likely with exterior connections. If work has been done in the tank with pump or a gauge all bets are off. I'll never understant why car companies put pumps in the tank when they could have put them outside it. Scares me but most have been ok, T
