has anyone ever heard of a feul pump that has a mind of its owm i have a 95 mercury cougar 3.8 v6 a mechanic told me the the pump is bad cuase its an aftermarket pump. if you go and try to start the car sometimes it wont start it cranks but wont fire if you push down on the trunk 2/3 times then the car fires please help think i have a ghost lol

That's not a ghost......... That's just someone jolting a stuck pump.

so it is a bad pump then and not a wire ive never had this problem with an aftermarket part before

Hahaha.............. You can't be serious

The Chinese junk they are selling in the discount parts stores now have failure rates approaching 50% in the first 90 days.

Of course we can't diagnose your car over the Internet. You need to use a fuel pressure gauge and a test light to diagnose it properly but it's not a surprise that banging on the back of the car would jump start a stuck fuel pump. Now you have to verify that is what you have.

ok that i can remember. so a bosch fuel pump is in that catogorie cause the fuel pump i replaced was a bosch and it was an original part i bought the car new in 95 so i put a bosch back in. i thought it was funny that all i had to do was push on the trunk and it started thanks for your time i think im just going to sell the car

The fuel pump inertia switch is also in the trunk. You might want to be sure you have power to the pump when the car doesn't want to start too.

Yep, gotta watch out. Seen a few name brand boxes with cheap Chinese knock off parts in them. Our shop usually stays with the OEM pumps. Motorcraft for Fords. You may pay a little more or the same, but better quality.

thank you all for your help it was a loose connection at the fuel pump rechecked and used pliers to tighten the connections to the pump alls good in cougarville "Thanks Again"
