I have a 1998 ford expedition with 200,000 on it and have had troubles with my windshield wipers. My rear windshield wiper stopped working a few years back and now it works. However now my front windshield wipers do not work. I have checked the fuse block and the fuse is good and the washers work....I think it is my motor. Where is the motor located on one of these...I couldn't find it on the firewall. Are there any other items I should check before I try the motor?

Any help will be appreciated.

here is a list of a couple things that could be the problem with your wipers.

it could be your multifunction switch on the steering column is bad.
the wiper motor itself could be burned out considering the mileage and age.
the wiper arm linkage could have simply fallen off the motor arm. (you should be able to hear the motor running but nothings happening)

so lets start with the cheapest by checking to make sure the wiper linkage is still attached to the motor itself.
youll need to remove the black plastic trim panels covering the cowl inbetween the edge of the hood and the windshield. this will reveal the wiper motor. make sure the linkage is still attached to the motor and isnt binding due to lack of lubrication.

next youll need to do some electrical testing to determine which is bad, the switch or the motor.
unplug the wiring harness to the wiper motor and grab a test light. ground the test light and see if your getting power while someone inside the car turns the wipers on with the multifunction switch on the steering column

if your getting power from the harness----> motor is bad.

if your not getting power from the harness---> double check any fuses and relays. if those are fine, you need to replace the multifunction switch.

thanks for the post. I was able to pull the wires to the motor, sprayed them with WD-40 plugged it back in and it works. I figure it must have had a little rust on the connections
