Howdy

New guy here. Glad to find this site. Hope some one can point me in the right direction.

My girl has a 2003 Kia Rio Cinco 1.6l DOHC it's got about 53,000 miles on it. Lately when it rains the engine sputters. I was hoping it was the plug wires (cheap, easy fix) so I replaced them. But of course next time it rained I heard all about how I didn't fix her car. I don't want to throw parts at it, so I'm actually asking advise.

Thanks to all who reply

Best regards

Dane

Take off the coil pack and inspect for cracks in the plastic housing.. you may see little lines of rust where cracks are. if you don't see any try soaking the coil with water see if it acts up.

A spray bottle with water works good for that test while the engine is running.

tho the plugwires may have been the origional problem i've seen where a bad wire boot on the blug end will leave a black carbon spripe down one of the sparkplugs and have the same missfire..may have to replace the sparkplugs as well,But i agree with hammertime..a misting spray bottle spraying on each plug and wire should help you locate your weak link..(PS..sometimes it may be nessary to put a load on the engine by having someone putting it in drive with the persons foot on the brake and lightly increasing the RPM to get it to act up but be careful doing this.....good luck
