engine pricing Sign In

I would like to some input about the price I was quoted in regards to putting a used engine with 92k miles into my son's 2003 chevy tahoe.
With parts and labor the shop quoted me 2700.00
What's everyone's take on this price?
Thanks

Re: engine pricing Sign In

So far doesn't mean much. What does that include with that price and warranty on it? Has the engine been totally checked out with a history more than just miles on the vehicle it came out of?

How much is engine cost and how much is labor. You can call a salvage yard yourself with your VIN so they would know an exact fit engine and what they have at what prices for a clue.

Expect included or understood that you should start off with fresh oil change, tune up items, antifreeze and by now cooling system hoses as well.

I like well checked out used ORIGINAL engines at this age of vehicle or so. It costs no matter what so you or your trust in the tech or shop for a check on this engine and anything known about it. Personally I like knowing why it's available - wrecked vehicles and how or what happened?

Can't nail down prices without tons more specifics on the job as a whole,

What is the shop's labor rate?

That sounds pretty reasonable to me, depending what it includes. It is common practice to freshen up the engine while it is out of the car and the only cost is parts with things like a new rear main seal, pan gasket, plugs, wires (if equipped), water pump, T-stat, hoses, etc.
