Get the codes - even OBDI will have something to say with the CEL on or blinking. By description so far I would chase down exhaust restriction like the converter which may flow better cold,

Checking for codes is a good idea.

You can do that by jumpering A to B in the ALDL connector. Turn the ignition on and the ECM will flash the check engine light for codes it is storing.

Another thing you can try is a tap test on the ECM itself. Wasn't uncommon for the circuit boards in the tin can ECMs to crack and cause intermittent stalling and other weird engine running problems. Unbolt the ECM with the connectors attached and start the engine. Let it warm up and then with an open palm lightly smack the back of the ECM opposite the PROM cover. If the engine stalls when you smack it, you probably have a cracked board. Don't smack it too hard or you might crack the board if it wasn't cracked in the first place.

Another thing that could cause intermittent stalling when hot is a failing crankshaft position sensor. The only way your going to figure that out is by watching the crank signal with an oscilloscope to see if it glitches out when the engine stalls.

It would be nice if the engine wouldn't restart after it stalled because that would make it easier to figure out what goes missing, but not everything is flowers and bunny rabbits in the automotive world.

You might want to test the sensor and its circuit before condemning it. You can do a voltage sweep test of the sensor itself to see if has any dead spots. If you could get your hands on a scan tool that can view data stream information, you could monitor the TPS voltage also, just to be sure you don't have a wiring or ECM problem.

The TPS is located on the throttle body and has to be adjusted with a DVOM or scan tool if a new one is installed.

You would have to call some shops in your area and find out what their diagnostic charge is.
