drum brakes Sign In

i have a 2001 suzuki vitari, and for some reason the left rear drum brake adjuster lever keeps either braking or loosening up. im really not familiar enough with drums to attempt to see whats what,, but Just brakes have fixed it 2 times within 2years, and she just broke again.
is this shoddy repair work? is it something i might be able to handle on my own? any comments would help, thanx

Re: drum brakes Sign In

If the same part keeps failing then something is going on..... I would have to see a diagram of that exact system to make a guess.

If you are doing it yourself you can always take off both drums & compare the right side to the left. See if there are any missing or broken springs, see if there is a lever that sits on the R side adjuster that is either missing or off the L side... Stuff like that..

Sounds like something is going on in there

ya,, i was looking at a rear drum diagram,, it is the adjuster lever,, holds the springs that squeeze the drums??? and no,, just brakes rebuilt complete rear wheels, last year, they had "trouble" getting the right part the 1sttime,, then about a month ago it let loose again, making car undrivable. they fixed under warranty,, but yesterday,, same thing happens again.im leaning towards bad repairs, but i honestly dont kno how that lever attaches to drum,, or if just tension??

You may be using an adjuster for the wrong side of the car. That would make it loosen the brakes instead of tighten them. It would have reverse thread.
