Alright so I have a 69 chevelle four door with a 350 chevy engine. When I first bought it I wanted to see what it could do so I floored it and it just died
no loud noises, just died. So I replaced the spark plugs and wires, the distributor and coil, the battery and the fuel filter and pump, still didn't start.
Then we figured out the firing order was off wala it started. But now after it warms up and goes to low idle it dies and won't start till it cools down.

Check for spark while cranking?
When it doesn't want to start take some starting fluid, open the throttle and spray some down into the intake. Close the throttle and crank the engine. Does it start and run until it burns off the spray?
*don't put your face near the carb in case it backfires.

I checked that too and I am getting spark.
*And I singed my eyebrows already.Hilarious.

If it backfired while you were cranking it and burnt your eyebrows, you have a timing problem. Does this have points or HEI? Have you run a compression check on it? Maybe the timing chain jumped which is why moving the distributor got it to run.

It's HEI. I haven't checked the compression but I will and get back to you.

Make sure the battery is fully charged and the starter is good before checking your compression. You don't want slow cranking speeds messing up your readings. Let us know how it turns out.

Alright the compression is good. I bought a new carb for it and messed with the air fuel mixture screws and it stopped dieing at
low idle, but then it started doing it again a couple days later, it also dies when I put it in reverse. It has a hard time changing
gears as well, but it might just be low on tranny fluid if I could keep it running long enough to check the fluid.

Drop it off at my house with the title in the glove box. I'll be sure to call you when I get it dialed in.
Are you sure the idle speed is set high enough? Any vacuum leaks? is this the stock motor or has it been modified? If so, what mods?

Haven't messed with the idle screw yet. No vacuum leaks. Not the stock motor, it had a 307 but the previous owner put
a 350 in it, not sure if it had any mods. And I'd drop it off at your house but that's to far to tow it.

Ha...before I even read Nick's reply I was thinking along the same line. Well, except the part about after getting dialed in. I just want the car and I'll go from there.
Good luck with it. Nick and DS will narrow down the problem. I haven't been able to stump them yet with anything.

New carb now and you've messed with the idle mixture screws! Ah - Why? Idle speed and linkage set right but you shouldn't be trying to cover some problem with the idle mixture screws. In fact if both are not the same and that makes it run better then something else is the problem,

Get your idle mix set back to factory and start looking for vacuum leaks very closely. With a carb you don't have an ECM triggering an IAC multiple times per second so using carb cleaner or a rubber hose on the end of a propane torch can find leaks easy. With this motor being transplanted from something else perhaps some lines have been left unplugged or someone went fully Cletus and shoved a small screw into a line instead of pulling a vacuum cap on a nipple the right way. Also, if the vacuum advance is leaking your timing will get retarded instead of advanced as it should. So mch comes into play. Once you eliminate fuel supply, ignition and all vac leaks, you will want to look at idle speed adjustment. Don't just use it as a crutch, be sure the rest of the systems are good to go first.
Then drop it off with me for a "test drive" so I can make sure it behaves. I'll bring it back eventually, and if you haven't heard from me then I'm certainly still working at it night and day.
