check if has spark

How do I check if it has spark to fire? I checked to see if the fuel pump cut on and it does. I'm in desperate need of help! cant afford to take to garage, if their is anything I can do myself first please let me know how.

remove a plug wire and hold it just off the plug or the coil or dist. and crank it the spark will always jump to ground
