89 merc, grandmarqui The brake pedal went to the floor, fluid in mc reservoir. Changed master cylinder following proper procedure. The pedal was normal until I turned on the ignition and it sunk to the floor. What now

You probably need to fully bleed the brakes (again) or the new part isn't good. The problem when you start up is that you have power brakes again - any car will have a softer feel to the pedal when running. If you just bench bled the master cylinder you should still bleed the whole system. 89 Marquis would be right rear first - LR - RF last LF while always keeping enough brake fluid in the reservoir.

If you have trouble with the bleeders (back wheel cylinders) will be worst and the dang brake line won't like coming out either so be ready to replace as needed and if needed route them where they were.

In addition - the back brake adjustment which is supposed to self adjust but quits when that star adjuster gets some time on it need to be done by hand or fix up the adjusters and lube as the back brakes have a lot to do with the disc drum system and brake feel. It's the best but when they are off you get a soft pedal just from that! Hit back if things are not right. I own three cars right now with this exact system. T

If you need brake line replacement read "Tricks of the Trade" as I'm going to discuss it today or email me for help.
