car wont start! 1991 chevy caprice. help!!!!

car wont start! 1991 chevy caprice. help!!!! Sign In

I have a 1991 Chevy caprice. The fuel is not getting to the engine. I changed the pressure regulator, I checked the fuel injectors, changed the fuel filter, I hear the fuel pump coming on but only little drops of fuel come out of the injector. I checked the fuse, and voltage. When I put gas in the Carb. It turns over! I'm lost what could be the problem? Why doesn't it seem to get any pressure, or fuel to the injector?

Either you have no fuel flow from the pump to the throttle bod, no injector pulse from the ECM, or bad injectors ( two injectors bad at one time is rare).

Probably the easiest thing to do is check for injector pulse using a NOID light for TBI injection. The light should rapidly flash while cranking the engine.

If you have pulse, the next thing would be to check fuel pressure. Unfortunetly, TBI isn't really mechanic friendly when attempting to connect up a fuel pressure gauge. You'll have to T a gauge in line after the fuel filter.

There should be a test connector near the battery for the fuel pump. If you run a jumper wire from the battery positive to that connector, you can send power to the pump without having the ignition on or cranking the engine. With the pump running, you can listen to the pump running through the fuel tank filler tube. If you hear splashing going on in the tank with the pump running, more than likely the pulsator or rubber hose inside the tank rotted out.

I checked the injectors the light flashed for both sides. I can hear the fuel pump coming on but I don't get any pressure to the injector. It drips a little gas but not enough to keep it running

If the NOID is flashing, more than likely you have injector pulse. Now you have to be careful using NOID lights because they draw very little current compared to an injector. A bad injector driver might be able to flash the light, but might not be able to pulse the injector. It does happen from time to time, so the NOID can lead you down the wrong road sometimes.


The next thing you need to do is check the fuel pressure. Your going to have to T a gauge inline. Too lazy to look at specs in service information, but fuel pressure should be around 13 psi.

Yeah, I'm not getting no pressure! Would that be the fuel pump?

OK! I got it running,but now its running rich and sluggish! It had a hole in the rubber fitting right above the fuel pump so I changed that and the fuel pump since we had the tank off. It keep loosing.g power now as well. Do u think IRS the battery?

You must check the installation of the coil pack and distributor. Including something in the fuel system or fuel pump. To get a car to start, you need compression, ignition, and fuel. So, have the ignition and fuel systems checks. Ignition and electrical first, then fuel.
