can't shift out of park

my g20 sport started causing me problems, when i start the car and press down on the brake the shifter doesn't want to unlock to let me shift out of park. i have to hold the brake down for a while or pump it and hold it and wait to hear that click unlocking it but i have to act fast or it locks back up.
anyone have any idea what's causing that?

Possibly the stop lamp circuit. Have someone check the brake lights when you hold the brake. If the lights don't work, check the fuse. If the lights do work, it could be a bad shifter solenoid or a wiring problem.
