STATS: Automatic, 97,000 miles

On my mitsubishi mirage 2001, the blinkers stopped working entirely. The back lights, and the dash light also went out. But I took it in and had the fuses changed.

This fixed the dash light and the back light, but the blinker lights are still not working. Unsure

Any ideas or is this a mysterious electrical problem?

If you've just had your car into a shop for diagnose & repair, you could call them and ask about your turn signals.

There is a turn signal/hazard unit under the left side of the dash you could check.

Does your hazard lights work?

Yeah, strangely, the hazard lights work entirely . How do I get into the dash?
Could it be the flasher relay?

If your hazards are working, more than likely the relay is ok. I believe on that system its an electronic relay that controls both the turn signals & hazards.

The best way would be to get a wiring diagram and check power going into & coming out of the combination switch (turn signal switch on the column). Although not impossible, I haven't seen too many of these electronic units go bad, most of the time it's in the combination switch (on the few moving parts in the system)

Unfortunately I can't post anything out of my data base but if you need a diagram of the system, maybe one of the other guys can hook you up when they see this.......

Could a faulty relay affect the blinkers, but not the hazard lights?

Is this something a relative layman could do? Or should I get an electrician to take a look?

Thanks for the advice!

That's not likely although nothing is impossible, you could price one and get the parts store to show you the location in their data base and then make the decision on the price to whether it's worth the gamble if it doesn't work

Thanks for the advice! You're welcome, good luck & happy turkey day

I'll probably bring it into a shop. Thanks for helping me rule out the possibilities. It's nice to have some background on it before I entrust a shop!

Happy Turkey day to you too! :-)
