automatic door locks

 I have a 2000. bmw 323i sometimes the door locks will operate properly and at other times will not. they will always lock correctly but will not unlock manually or with the electronic devises in the key or button. I must say that you can open the passenger door with the key. the trunk lock opens with pressing the button on the key but not with the unlock button in the car in the console. note that the drivers door and the trunk have the only place where a key can be inserted. the car is only driven perhaps 30 miles a week and the key is charged in the ignition switch. this leads me to think that there is one device that could be causing this behavior.
