all of a sudden lost engine power, and power steering Sign In

so, my wife and I were coming home (she was driving) when we experienced these issues... we have a 2012 Kia Sorento... we were driving through a massive rainstorm at the time which lasted for a good 15 minutes of the drive home... we were almost home when all of a sudden, the engine starting working really hard, and the vehicle was losing power (slowing down). the power steering went out as well. we have to pull into a parking lot. we turned the car off, waited a minute, then started it back up... we drove for about 20 seconds, and the same thing happened again.

could this be a result of the heavy downpours? I have no idea. I really want to find out what the source of the problem might be. can anyone guess?

Driving through deep puddles can call all kinds of issue from soaking the electronics to destroying the engine.

You need to have a local mechanic look at it and find out what is happening.

we didn't drive through any deep puddles... it was just a massive downpour of rain for about 15 minutes or so. but yes, of course I will be bringing it to our local mechanic tomorrow. I was just hoping to get some advice here about what the issue might be.

It's apparent that something is failing due to getting wet. I can't tell you much more than that from here.

As far as the steering, that is likely related to the belt.

It just did that here now a couple hours ago NOT the world known, watched hurricane yet to come. Same anyway you can't drive thru that with a vehicle on roads at much speed puddles or not it's just too much.
Basics - cool water on hot items, metals, electrical, pulleys, belts and if bad enough you'll find brake problems later! Don't do that again with a machine of any type.

IDK either the total failures possible belt would be first, exhaust collapse inside rare but so is driving thru that twice you learn the first time hopefully.
Start ruling things out one by one see what happened with luck maybe just dry out and behave again but doubt it,
