abs brake sensors

What would a bad front wheel abs sensor affect if it was bad? Is there a way to check them to see if they maybe bad?

Normally when a frt abs sensor fails the abs system is disabled & turns the abs light on.
Now if there is a problem with the gap or exciter ring it cause cause the abs system to engage when it shouldn't. This would be obvious, pulsing pedal and related noises

If your assuming that you have a bad speed sensor simply because the light is on, you could spend an awful lot of money throwing parts at it until something cures it, if ever.
The light being on means there is a malfunction in the system. Speed sensors are only one of dozens of different possible causes. The self diagnostic system was put in the car to help find the problem but unless you have the stored codes read, it's like throwing darts at a dartboard.

Thanks Hammer! is that something the dealership has to check? Autozone said they could not read ABS problems. Any ideas? Thanks.

It takes a scanner capable of accessing the abs module to pull abs codes......
While this method isn't 100% for a verifying a bad speed sensor, it's pretty much 100% verifying it's not a sensor depending on what happens...
Disconnect both battery cables for about 5 minutes and turn the lights on pump the brk pedal a bunch of times while it's disconnected and then hook the battery back up. This clears every thing & restores all factory defaults ( the car may drive differently for a couple of days until it relearns.)
Start the car up, if the abs light is off and stays off until the vehicle starts to move, the problem is in the speed sensor circuit. Could be a bad sensor or could be something else
If the lights comes on right away and stays on then the problem is in the HCU, module, some area that is failing during a self test...... Speed sensors don't normally fail during a self test.....

Remember, even if you could isolate it to a speed sensor, in 4 wheel ABS, there are 4 of them and you still won't know what to do without the codes unless you have a rear wheel only system. If that is the case I can tell you that the single speed sensor in the top of the differential fails all the time.
