car needs jump start, but battery tested OK? Sign In

lost a key between my seats but couldn't move my electric seats so I pushed the push start button without my foot on the break...was able to move the seat and find my key. (I think I pushed the push start again after moving the seat to turn it off but don't recall). This took 30 minutes max. Than my car wouldn't start. Don't think if car was on, 30 minutes would drain the battery?

Had to get a jump start and car worked fine everyday for 4 days. I let engine run 30 minutes after jump start in idle parking lot.

Than yesterday it didn't turn on and I needed another jump start. My battery takes 10 minutes to charge up, but the dash did read "low battery" after 2 minutes of charging. After the jump start I took it to autozone and they said battery tested good. He tested alternator while car was on and said that's fine.

Today, again, the car doesn't start. Lights, radio, etc. turn on and work fine.

Any idea what the issue is?

Year, make, model, and engine size?

How old is the battery? Are your connections clean and tight?

IDK - Not much confidence in outlet store's testing. You have a low battery warning light on that is probably correct. It just doesn't have the AMPS (POWER) needed to crank engine but could test OK depending on how tested. Needs load test not just volts but they count for knowing charging system is working while running and can they stay in norms with items in use?
What is this car? First test should be for voltage and voltage drop at battery posts while trying to crank it.
You are going to say you don't have a voltmeter so try this: Just turn on (forced) interior lights and crank the car looking at them. Bet they dim badly or go out.
If so begin with knowing battery cables are good, clean and tight enough. Not much more you can really do except make sure belt it tight enough without at least a voltmeter and so far think your battery is toast but early still for a diagnosis.

Know that when a battery is really low and you keep jumping it you are really stressing out the alternator so get yourself a battery charger too - slow ones are not expensive and easier on battery...........

2012 range rover sport.

not sure how old the battery is, parents gave me the car about a year ago.
some minor corrosion on battery, but probably normal. connections look fine. again, it did this after i pushed the start button without putting foot on break so engine didn't start.

no issues or even hint of issue (slow cranking) prior

well i don't think i have any battery. after hooking up a jump start for 2 minutes, i'll get a "low battery" warning but the car won't start. after 10 minutes of charging the low battery warning goes away and the car starts.

someone said the battery might not be able to hold a charge?

still not sure how pushing the push start button without starting the engine for 30 minutes caused all this

What - NORMAL corrosion on battery? Not! If model year is 2012 battery could be and is marked how old it is by month, perhaps encrypted and could be made new in early 2011. It's too old just from age even if newer in 2012 likely to be original.
You have a problem and IMO any battery over about 4 years and now put under these stresses is junk or questionable.
Letting them go low if a parasitic draw or something left on isn't good for them up to killing a good one too and as said take the alternator with it.
If cold (below say 40F) where you are batteries normally do not have the power of a warm one so need everything they were intended for, for AMPS - guess for this vehicle 600 CCA or more. Your call and could test this out yourself but if that battery is original it's not a waste to get a proper new one,
