Hello, This car is a 97 Toyota RAV4 2.0L with 170K. I had the brakes checked ( at a shop) on the car and found out that the front calipers weren't moving. Everything else checked out and the tech said the sliding pin/boot area was all jammed up from crud and I needed to get 2 new calipers. I thought you could just take out the pin(s) and clean it up and the hole also. Do I really need 2 new calipers ? Also, if this can be done, can I clean it while it's still connected or do I need to disconnect it from everything including the brake line ?
thanks

Sometimes the frozen slides can be freed up and sometime they are frozen so bad that they can't be and would be severely damaged if they were pulled apart. Replacing the calipers is the correct way to resolve the issue. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
