I have a 1969 ford ranchero with the 302(5.0) 50,000miles Why does my car drop its acceleration and drop in speed when i drive past 40 mph ? I can drive the car if i slowly accelerate but once i hit 40mph it starts to drop speed and it kind of feels like it boggs out. But if i step on it from the start it starts to drop...and then wants to go but still drops

First make sure choke shuts off. Check basic tune with a dwell tach that it's within spec. Rev up a little and if dwell changes more than 5-6 degrees you may have a worn distributor? Then I think I'd focus on fuel volume and pressure (guess about 4-6 psi) and should be able to fill a quart jar fairly well. Pump has rubber parts - it's old anyway and the gasoline sold in many places is too hard on rubber items, T

This means that your car is not generating much RPM hence you feel drop in you accelaration. There must be two reasons your must be giving giving extra gas to the engine suddenly or you check for any engine fluid likage and get a maintainance for your car. Please remove links from signature asap
