Wheel won't come off - is this a special lug nut? Sign In

Hi all,

I tried taking off the fron ttires of my 2003 matrix this morning to change the brake pads and ran into a problem - the tires won't come off! I removed the 5 standard lug nuts but there seems to be something holding the tire on in the center (or else it's just rusty and I need to throw some force into it).

Can anyone please tell me if this is a special nut that I need a special tool for (nothing came with the car)

Make sure that your vehicle is supported by jackstands when doing this.

Put one lug nut on a few threads. Donkey kick the inboard side of the tire. That should free the wheel from the hub.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

If that doesn't work, put the lugs back on but leave them loose and drive in a small circle and that will break it loose.
