What is the Locking wheel nut keyway

what is the Locking wheel nut keyway? is it the bit on the actually tire or the bolt used to unlock it ?

It is a special socket designed to fit a unique design lugnut. This nut cannot be removed without the matching socket which is carried in the vehicle.

I really question wheel locks now adays, if they really serve any purpose. From my point I see them doing more harm than good. The key gets lost and now the customer is paying $40 (or more) to remove the locks. If a thief wants the wheels, they know how to get them off.
I suppose if you live in a bad enough neighborhood where you see cars on blocks & no wheels then they would serve a purpose. Where I'm at, when wheels get taken, the whole car gets stolen, driven to a different area, stripped & burned, wheel locks are a minor speed bump for the thieves....
Alarms are close to the same boat..... Next time you hear one go off in a parking lot look around, see how people react.......Nothing.... No calls to 911, no one comes running over, everyone just goes on about their business. At most you may see someone with an annoyed look on their face. Plus the AM ones are easily by passed. If I can bypass one in couple of minutes, I'm sure a thief can do it in less than 1.
The factory ones that disable the fuel or starting systems, those are worth their weight in gold, almost impossible to bypass.

That and where I'm at least you can walk into any Autozone and buy the kit to take the locks off for less than $20.00.
