What does the Acronym OCI stand for? Sign In

Hi,

I don't know if this is generic or not but I'm considering the life of my oil pump as I have to do a clutch replacement at some point soon and intend to have the engine out on a cherry picker anyways.....

I've been doing a little research on oil and I'm fairly certain it refers to the mileage done on a change of oil but I'd like to verify such before I subject the engine to something I didn't know to cope with.... Is OCI simply the mileage on a change of oil or do I need to look for a certain viscosity and evaporative rate of different oils or something? I can't find the proper information on google and don't know whom else to ask....

? Same results w a different search. Forget that acronym for oil there were too many uses of that.
Oil and life of it and your oil pump? #1 would need to know which engine, miles and any history. Why is it coming out for anything except the clutch I wouldn't touch the engine normally.
* Oil and it's life: IMO (you get that one right?) is already corrupted by sellers of the products to confuse it into outer space. It does break down the additives that made it pass some initial test of viscosity meeting SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) ratings. There are so many differences in how it's exposed when used it has been a standard to just change it if any question at 3,000 miles or 3 months as a default. If you wish convert that to hours of use is another common unit of measure. It can go much longer and more miles than that. IMO again it's diluted with other contaminants so it's no longer what you started with plus the heat and pounding it takes just being a lubricant.
* Oil pump life: Unknown if one demonstrates it's working properly I wouldn't touch it. That goes for lots of things. A good original is probably better than some cloned junk you'll get new now.

Switch now: Just the quick read leave the oil pump out for a clutch job it's not the problem now.
Off the total topic: Why are you using a "Cherry Picker" so said to hoist out an engine/trans assembly? I'm not there but think you should rethink that for a tool for this. There are better ways than that I can just smell disaster of some machine tipped over onto the vehicle!

It appears you have your answer but in the future, regardless of what you are asking, we need year, make, model and engine size included in your question.
