Weird battery connection noise

Car starting to make weird clicking noise in engine. The clicking got faster the faster i went. Eventually on the way to work one morning, the car stalled. I gave a bit of gas to start the car and waited for it to warm up. then the clicking stopped (only when it was warm.) I tried to start it a few days later and it wouldnt start. The next day I went to try again to start it and there was no lights on my dashboard and the battery was completely dead. It was about -30 degrees Celsius overnight. I tried boosting the battery but it wouldnt start. I bought a new battery and hooked everything up, but when I attached the negative to the battery, the connection "beep" wasnt just one beep, it was a sporadic series of soft and loud beeps going almost in a weird "beat." it wasnt an alarm noise but just the regular connection established beep. I tried boosting the car again and the battery now holds a charge, but the engine still wont turn on. Any feed-back on what is happening with this vehicle would be very greatly appreciated. Thank you.

When you connected the battery and heard the beeping noises, was the ignition turned on?
