Hi! I have a 1991 Honda Civic sedan 1.5L and with more than 200k milage. my problem is that as soon as I stop and shut off the engine, water starts to drip under and the water in the reservoir starts to dry. the car is not overheating and also when I check the water from the radiator, its dry on the top so I have to add more coolant in it. Is it a problem with the thermostat or what? Please help coz its too expensive here in Canada to have it fixed with a mechanic.

You have to get in there & find out what is leaking and repair the leak. The fact that it is leaking without having to pressurize the system helps in finding it. It could be a hose, gasket, etc.

You do need to get it fixed. If the leak gets larger quickly & you overheat the car while driving and the problem can get way more compliated & expensive to fix...

Hi Sidom, thanks to your reply. Actually I checked the hoses already and the hoses are actually new. When the engine is cold, there is no water leaking. I talked to a friend and he said that he had the same problem with his car before and said it was the thermostat that was the cause. I want to know from other people specially a mechanic if this is so.

I tried to use the car again this morning and as soon as I returned home, I shutoff again the engine and I opened the radiator cap and there was pressure coming out and water is flowing out too. Does this mean that the thermostat is not opening that's why pressure is building in to the engine or radiator? water is also leaking as I got into my garage. Or does it mean that there might be an air pocket. If so, How will I remove the air pocket? Please advice. . . . .

Aldy; As Sidom suggested, you need to find the origin of the leak. It could be overheating due to a lot of reasons and overpressurizing the cooling system, bypassing the radiator cap, overfilling the reservoir, then leaking to the ground. You need to find out WHERE the leak is. Do not allow the engine to overheat as it will cause more problems.
