Volkswagen Golf 2000 model can't pick up

my VW Golf just cut power abruptly as i was driving, when it was diagnosed it was showing 'lost key memory", after fixing it, it cuts power when its about to pick on ignition, now its showing ''Ïngine check'' on dashboard, what could be the problem? we've tried to change the ignitor and coil but to no avail

You probably mean check engine light is on. ECU is storing code(s). Need to scan and see what they are. Write down the numbers.
