Vibration in second gear Sign In

Hi guys, I am new to this forum and this is my first post.
Please help me with some advice before I take my car in for a quote.
I bought a 2010 Renault Koleos 4X2 2.5 with a manual transmission.
The car drove so nicely and I could not find anything wrong with it.
But now, its two weeks later and something went wrong,
When I pull away in 1st gear, all is well. Then after getting into second gear and accelerating,
there is some vibration, not through the steering wheel.
There is no vibration at all in all the other gears. What could have went wrong?
I can add that the tires are nearly at the end of their legal useful life and might even be unbalanced.
Could it be the tires, or do I have a more serious more costly repair waiting for me?

Please help me to troubleshoot this.

Re: Vibration in second gear Sign In

Hi, this is a US based site and this car not sold here but not the issue for now. I can't see tires just causing a vibration in one gear only as the problem?

Perhaps motor mounts are broken, one or more allowing too much motion and you feel that? I think if you pushed it you'd also feel it in third though as well or other times and loads on engine.

Could a transmission do this: Maybe? I'd rule out motor mount problems and continue if not just that looking for what and checking all things routine to a car that they are up to date just because you seem to have just bought this one. The time to fully check out a car is BEFORE buying one always best.
Tires again: They can wear to the legal end without defect or not and can be checked on their own but seems you will need new ones anyway and suggest noting type of wear they have in general as clues to other possible problems,
