Vauxhall Corsa Whirring noise when accelerating Sign In

Since starting up my car this morning (first ever time its happened) my car has been making a whirring noise when accelerating.

It usually starts at around 25-30 MPH (or audible at this speed anyway) and seems to continue no matter what gear im in.

When the car is idling along or when i apply the clutch the noise drops of slightly (over when accelerating) but is still there.

When stationary and revving the engine there is no noise.

When stationary with the engine running, there is a chattering noise coming from the engine area (which can only be heard when the bonnet is open)

Does anyone have a clue on what my problem is?

The only other issue i have had with the car (which could be totally unrelated) is that my aircon / heating will stop for a few seconds (or sometimes completely) when going over bumps, and will sometimes only turn on after going over a bump.

Any help would be appreciated!

The world of strange noises is tough without witnessing it in person.

Some things you can check if up to it try with engine cool/cold feeling around for loose parts, brackets that hold moving parts, motor mounts intact and hold engine transmission/transaxle in proper position.

If all seems good try take belt(s) off and spin the items by hand for anything the feels wrong or freeplay that doesn't belong at all. Good bearing do not make noise but some will under a load and not without.

You may have a battery to engine to body ground issue. Look that cable (negative) goes to engine block and either directly again to body metal and or assorted ground straps for both corrosion and perhaps one or more totally broken for the heat/A/C issue? A maybe on that.

Car not sold to the US where most techs are from so limited for specifics but is a noise for now and the heat/aircon as you put it that cuts out I take you mean the blower quits?

If these will clearly make the noises it may really help to speed up finding it with the help of a professional auto repair tech and worth a few bucks to go for a ride and some tests,

T
