2001 Pontiac sunfire 2.2L
ok, here's the deal, my car has been running like the best ever. i bought it from a guy who had just put a new motor in it. I had the car for about 2 months...even drove it to Georgia from texas and back. The other day i started it and it made a loud pop and now when I start it the idleing will lob until it warms up, if i attempt to drive it while the engine is lobbing it wants to take off on it's own. However, if i wait a few minuets the lob will stop and i can drive it. it still sound horrible. But I have no brake power and the trac off light is on. At first I thought it was the MAP sensor. i took it out and started it and although there is no wobble. it seems to want to die like it is starving for air. I replaced the MAP sensor and it was not it. I am sure it is a vacuum leak but i went through every hose and they are all in good shape. can someone help me before i take it to the shop...cause I'd rather fix it on my own!

You obviously have a check engine light on. Have you pulled the codes yet?

I found the problem, on the bottom of the intake manafold there is a small plastic cap. I had found the cap when i poped off the same day. i started the car put my hand over the hole and it runs fine although I do need to adjust the idle now as it is in the closed position. this is my first cat without a carb. however, my question is now what would make the cap pop off and is this something i can apply sealer to and glue on? I hope so cause i am on my way to go get some now. and your question about the code, read high input.

The idle is not adjustable on that car. If you messed with the stop screws, there is a whole procedure for setting that up.

After I read your post I did a quick start on it and it is running perfectly, there is no need to adjust the idling...she shouds perfect. Although the Trac off light is still on I have power to the brakes. I disconneted the battrey and hope that resets the computer.
