Not sure why it quit working but when my husband went to put the other in it won't retract in or out of the car. Is there a way to repair it or Toss It!! Too much liability in attempting to repair a seat belt retractor. The only time I have seen a seat belt retractor repair was allowed was because of a recall modification from the manufacture, but if a customer brings in a car that has a retractor problem requiring disassembly, it gets a seat belt. No if, ands, or buts. The only exception is if the seat belt was folded, tangled, or something was jamming it that didn't require disassembly of the retractor. If you do end up getting another seat belt, after installing it be sure to make sure that it operates. Not only should the belt retract when you take it off, but it should lock when you step on the brakes moderately. While stopping hard, jerk the belt and make sure it locks. You don't want to find out later that it doesn't lock when little Timmy is flying through the windshield.
